A Republican lawmaker pushed Democratic colleagues off the deep end earlier this week for handling several of his own firearms in order to make a point about a far-left push to ban high-capacity magazines.
Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) pulled out a collection of his personal handguns during a Thursday House Judiciary Committee markup session that was taking place virtually on measures aimed at preventing gun violence, prompting concern from Democrats on the committee.
After Steube made several points about how banning certain gun magazines would effectively be a ban on the guns they belong to because other, smaller magazines would not fit them, he was interrupted at one point by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas).
“I hope the gun is not loaded,” she interjected.
“I’m in my house, I can do whatever I want with my guns,” Steube promptly responded.
Steube was not at the Capitol with other lawmakers but was attending the hearing remotely via videoconference.
He pulled out his guns while making a point about a provision in the legislation being considered that would ban sales of magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
“Everything you need to know about this gun control package: Democrats don’t even want to let me show what they’re trying to ban. I’m an American in my own home, and I’ll do whatever I want with my guns, Mr. Chairman,” he wrote on Twitter along with a video clip of the exchange.

In the video, Stuebe noted that he constantly carries a concealed handgun, a privilege that lawmakers are afforded in the nation’s capital, while average citizens in that heavily Democratic city are not.
“Don’t let them fool you that they are not attempting to take away your ability to purchase handguns. They’re using the magazine ban to do it,” Steube said.
For the record, Steube is a veteran; he joined the U.S. Army and served with distinction from 2004 to 2008 as an airborne infantry officer and member of the Judge Advocate General Corps, doing one tour in Iraq (2005-2006) — so he knows how to handle weapons.
“Steube mentioned that the bestselling Glock 19 has a standard magazine capacity of 15 rounds. Then, Steube brought out some of his own firearms that come with standard magazines that hold more than 10 rounds: A SIG Sauer P226, a SIG Sauer 320, and a SIG Sauer P365 XL,” The Hill reported.
“Steube pulled out lower-capacity magazines and showed that they do not fit in his handguns that have a larger standard magazine capacity, arguing that Democrats’ bill would essentially outlaw those firearms,” the report continued.
During his presentation, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) repeatedly attempted to get Stuebe to yield for a question.
“No, I’m trying to get my point across in the two minutes I have left,” Steube finally said.
The session was aimed at discussing eight new gun-control provisions Democrats hope to pass following mass shootings in Buffalo, N.Y., and Uvalde, Texas, last month — both by 18-year-old suspects who used semi-automatic AR-15-style rifles.
Needless to say, several Democrats chimed in to gaslight Stuebe, including Rep. Eric Swalwell, the California Dem who lasted about 15 minutes in his party’s 2020 presidential primary.
“This is who Republicans are. Kids are being buried and they’re bragging about how many guns they own during our gun safety hearing. They are not serious. They are a danger to our kids,” he wrote on Twitter.

And who are Democrats? They want to put your kids in even greater danger by disarming as many Americans as possible, all while they enjoy heavily armed security personnel who carry some of the same weapons they don’t want us to have.
